Fate vs. Manifestation. The truth on our destiny.
A series on Manifestation vs. Fate - uncovering the nature of destiny and choice
We know we can calculate our 9 - 18 year cycles (that match up with our astrological transits) like clockwork. They show us the underlying patterns that are dictating our circumstances from year to year, and also paving the way for breakthrough evolution for the desires of our heart (a how-to located HERE).
When we look at our astrological transits through the lens of 9-18 year cycles, we see universal divine timing at play. Years ago, when I saw Saturn was going to be transiting my 7th house of marriage and long term partnerships during some difficult years of my 18 year cycle, I knew it was likely going to be marriage ending for me, as it was. I could see my ex-partner having serious health problems and injuries when Uranus and Jupiter were conjunct and transiting his first house while Saturn and Mars began to move through his 12th house while Chiron was still there, years before his long hospital stay occurred. I could see when new love would enter my life, when my career would begin, and the kind of parents I was fated to have. With this kind of information, it begs the question, do we have any power in this life?
Ra the messenger of Human Design claims that we have “no choice” in each incarnation, and that we are a passenger along for a ride that is predetermined by our internal mechanics. If that is truly the case, where does that leave room for the concept of manifestation?
The good news is, manifestation is absolutely real, and we are meant to be the supernatural creators of our lives and receive the desires that are implanted in our hearts. This can be confusing in times of tragedy and challenge, and when learning to navigate the transits we are all subject to. Here, we will go over how manifestation actually works, but first it’s important to understand the concept of no-choice in Human Design, and how the karma of our ancestors and the collective effects our lives in order to have a more nuanced understanding of our destiny and give us faith and confidence that we are not helpless bystanders of fate.
In Human Design, we are shown that we have two separate aspects working simultaneously within us. The magnetic monopole is the magnet that holds these two different sides of ourselves together.
The first side is called “the design crystal,” which is our human body or form and comes from our direct family line.
The second aspect of ourselves is the conscious mind, or what Human Design refers to as “the personality crystal.” The personality crystal is eternal and chose to incarnate into our design, at approx. 88 degrees of the sun (around 3 months before birth.) The personality is located just outside the body, above the head center, and is the witness of our lives. It’s meant to be the watchful passenger, and is not meant to interfere with our decision making. (This is why we hear stories of our consciousness observing our body during near death experiences and via astral projection.)
The magnetic monopole (that comes from the earth, as we are made of earth), is the force that attracts and holds our two sides together until death.
Our design crystal or body is our vehicle, and the magnetic monopole is our driver, and is actively attracting in what is meant for us in this life time.
However, there is a misconception about our (body) vehicle. It’s not a car like the one we might own, it’s more of a cable car, or a self driving Tesla. It’s pre-programmed or on a track that is taking us to where we are destined to go. The magnetic monopole is the GPS program that is pulling in all of our destined environments, relationships, and opportunities that are already occurring simultaneously in space/time all at once.
And if time is occurring all at once, this begs the question; are we manifesting our reality before it happens, or is our subconscious (that is inherently omnipotent) subtly letting our conscious minds desire what we already have elsewhere on some future timeline?
There’s another important aspect of Human Design that shows up when we talk about fate. Our design crystal holds our ancestral cellular blueprint that dictates some of our seemingly karmic and “random” life events…
The left side of our charts (usually red or orange toned in most HD software) is the subconscious part of our mechanics. It’s our design, the flesh that we incarnated into this time around.
This left side of our design, is directly related to our ancestors, more specifically; our grandparents.
Human Design states that this inheritance is from our material line, (as it appears in my family), however, Karen Parker Curry, an original student of Ra Uru Hu, has said our design is more likely from both sides of the family tree. Our design or body has it’s own astrology chart, separate from the birth chart we’re used to seeing, with it’s own sun, moon, north node, south node, etc.
Though I’m a Taurus sun in my tropical birth chart (the right side of the HD chart), my design is an Aquarius sun like my grandmother. And like her, I have my sun in gate 41 and Earth in gate 31.
My maternal grandmother was a green eyed Aquarius who wore designer dresses and heeled sandals while picking artichokes from her garden and steering boats into the choppy Pacific. She bleached her hair platinum every five weeks and had an out-spoken rebellious streak, a singular trait that allowed her overly nurturing spirit to escape a difficult childhood.
A glamorous and rebellious Aquarian grandmother
This is the energy of my design crystal, and I observe this subconscious influence as my “vehicle” from the space of my personality crystal. I associate it with my identity vaguely, but it often feels like a completely separate entity that has its own mind and behaviors that I am not in control of. And in a way, that is true. We all associate ourselves with our personality crystals, the silent observer of our vehicles, our consciousness that remains eternal.
When our vehicle returns to the Earth, my personality crystal will go on. However, the blueprint of my incarnation and my vehicle (body) will be passed onto my children, and in that way, my vehicle or my Aquarian grandmother never dies…
What makes this so interesting is, in some respect our parents were raising their parents with us.
And I am parenting my mother and father in some nebulous way with my own children.
My kids will be parenting me if they chose to reproduce, and so the karmic pattern goes.
We get a chance to alter our family’s past actions and re-actions via our own transformation. We can see this information slowly starting to unfold in modern day science, with evidence of our grandparent’s traumatic stress being passed on for generations via DNA. In reality, we see this as scenes from the past being acted out all over again.
My teenage grandmother on an Oregon beach, far right.
A case study or coincidence?
My grandfather died due to suffocation when a boat he was fixing slipped of the block and accidentally fell on top of him, crushing him. His neighbor didn’t hear his screams for several minutes. When he finally did, he ran to find help, but it was too late.
A few months ago my brother was fixing the underside of his truck when the vehicle slipped off the block and fell on him, crushing him. He called for help just before he began to asphyxiate. This time around, his wife who was in the house, miraculously heard him, and ran to get their neighbor. They were able to lift the truck an inch or two so he could roll out. Karma averted.
Last year, my kids had set up a mini bake sale in our front yard when they saw our gray cat leap across the street, only to be struck by an SUV that was speeding down a quiet neighborhood street. I wasn’t home when it happened, something I felt really guilty about. When I talked to my dad that afternoon, he mentioned the same thing had happened to him when he was the same age as my daughter. He said it was a traumatizing memory because his mother wasn’t home, and later, she did not console him or talk with him about it. Karma was averted, as I spent the week consoling them, talking about it, getting lots of gelato, and putting on an elaborate cat funeral in the garden.
A year or two ago my oldest daughter was bit hard in the face at random by a dog on a leash. I say “at random” because she did not know this dog and was not interacting with him when the incident occurred. My mother had the same experience at the same age. After a trip to the ER and stitches, my daughter has a scar on her cheek in the same spot as my mother.
There are many incidents myself and other family members have had that echo the trauma our grandparents lived through. I could write more stories and antidotes from them, but they’re on the more private side of things, and I know those involved would not want that information shared.
When it comes to the left side of the chart, you don’t have to have the same gates or channels as a grandparent, but you might. Regardless, you will be experience some of their past as it comes back around in some form or another, in order for you to heal it.
If you think of a large rock being dropped into the middle of a lake, and the ripples of water that form rings around the rock after that action was taken, we see these waves moving outward and getting smaller and smaller until they dissipate. These individual ripples are like each of our lives, until someone reacts to the experience differently, and causes the effects to be neutralized.
Me, my grandfather who was killed by his boat, and my brother who almost died a similar way
One thing I find interesting is that, when my grandfather was killed by his boat, my brother was preschool age. It wasn’t some kind of cellular memory from a childhood accident that triggered a similar scenario for my brother. Cause and effect in that order is how we perceive our linear view of reality, but it isn’t necessarily that way in the quantum realm. Research suggests that causality may follow the formula of effect first, and cause later, and that both formulas can exist at the same time. Is it plausible that the vehicular death by suffocation effect existed somehow within the genetic or energetic coding, causing the magnetic monopole to pull that possibility toward my brother? It’s an interesting concept to consider.
Ra Uru Hu, the messenger of Human Design states that we have “no choice” in our life circumstances and direction due to our mechanics.
The gates, channels, circuitry, and variables in our chart dictate our behavior and determine what our magnetic monopole brings in.
Ra also says the collective is subject to the conditioning of the neutrino stream, which essentially means that we are conditioned by the planets and their transits. On the surface, this sounds as if it goes against the concept of manifestation, and a free and independent self concept.
When I’ve looked at the Akashic Records, I’ve been shown that our life path is not linear but appears in layers, with the past, present, and future occurring simultaneously. Instead of a linear path, and mini-paths splitting off from a main path when we begin to create new beliefs, make changes, or manifest, we can think of our timelines happening in layers, layers that we have the ability to move through, somewhat like a hotel elevator.
But what is the “no-choice” concept that is talked about in Human Design? It’s the reality that we have set mechanics within our human form that’s made of gates, circuits, channels, variables, and definition that dictate our behaviors, cognition, digestion, viewpoint, desires, dislikes, reactions, perception and much more. Within this set form, we have the vehicle of our life that our magnetic monopole is driving. Our conscious mind is a passenger along for the ride and does not have control over our destination.
It’s a gift that our conscious mind is meant to be the passenger, as we are naturally in a space of calm observation when in a state of surrender. This surrendered mind is how we receive channeled messages and hear our inner knowing. When we are living in this magic energy of neutral surrender and receiving these “intuitive hits,” desires, or pushes in a certain direction, our design (body) is the medium that these strokes of genius come through, and not the nervous, rational, and protective mind. The mind processes information and forms conclusions, but the energy in question is coming through the body or form. When this occurs we are creating our reality.
So, if our conscious mind has no control over our lives, and we have an invisible force pulling us down the path of fate, how are we manifesting and creating our reality? I’ve been shown that there are levels to our awareness. If we have a certain gate or channel highlighted in human design that dictates our response or behavior, there is a gradient of health that is associated with it. Imagine a thermometer with different degrees informing us of the temperature. The mechanics of our Human Design (our channels, gates, variables, circuits, definition, etc.) have a gradient of health associated with them that can move “up” or “down” depending on where we are in our consciousness, awareness, and energy. This gradient is what shows us what we will manifest based on our health.
The higher we rise in consciousness, the more we will align with our desires.
Also be aware, it is completely normal to have experienced these higher states of consciousness and still have fear or any of the feelings in the lower end of the gradient. Very rarely if ever do we maintain a perfect “high” in perpetuity, and often we will feel multiple levels at once. Even the most prolific and transformative spiritual teachers throughout history feel intense fear and stress. Whether or not you believe in Christ, the story of Jesus shows him agonizing and sweating blood in the Garden of Gethsemane hours before he knew he was fated to die. Mark 14:34 says Jesus’s soul was overwhelmed with sorrow until the point of death. We are all apart of the collective when we’re incarnated on Earth, we live in world that is mired in suffering, betrayal, and grief. To say we are not “high consciousness” as we experience the depth of human emotion is untrue and psychologically abusive.
However the term “conscious awareness” is what is key. When we make it to the top of the gradient we have become aware of the truth of ourselves and others, we know what it feels like to be in a state of surrender, how to be open and curious, how to have faith and trust in the divine plan. When we are experiencing our greatest fears is when we are meant to surrender into the divine flow. Conscious awareness doesn’t mean we won’t experience these difficult emotions or energies, it means that we have the wisdom to prevail amidst them.
Conscious awareness doesn’t mean we won’t experience these difficult emotions or energies, it means that we have the wisdom to prevail amidst them.
We are meant to have the deepest desires of our hearts. When we rise in our conscious awareness, we align with the right people and opportunities that will match our energy. When we are not at our optimum level of consciousness, we will align with situations or relationships that are designed to aid us in growing into that higher state. Both aspects are great, and happening to us as we speak. Fate in this scenario means that we are subject to our mechanics and family karma, but when we rise in our energy and consciousness we meet those encounters with clarity and faith and move in the direction of our biggest dreams.
Author Rob Bell in his book, What is the Bible, talks about how Abraham in the book of Genesis breaks out of consistent ancestral patterns: “People didn’t do that at that time in history because they had a cyclical view of history in which everything that has happened will happen again. They believed that you’re born into a cycle of events and you’ll die somewhere in that same cycle of events as the cycle endlessly repeats itself.” (11).
We learned about this concept in the previous post on calculating where you are in your 9-18 year cycles here. While we are beholden to returning energy patterns every 9 and 18 years until our death (like the circular ripples that disperse from a large rock being thrown into the middle of a placid lake) this is not a negative thing, and will not stop your dreams and manifestations from coming through.
I am currently in the midst of the repeating energy from the year 2015 and 2006. I know where I am on my map of cycles and know the types of patterns and energy coming in for me. Due to this, I am manifesting the greatest desires of my heart with these patterns based on what I know occurred in the past, what I see in the present, and what I sense and know about the future (and they’ve already been coming in quite fast.)
The best thing to hear and the most triggering thing to hear all at once:
Our subconscious knows us better than we know ourselves. When disastrous circumstances feel unavoidable, we are given the opportunity to heal our family line and the collective and grow in order to reach our most aligned path. There have been wildly painful betrayals and breakups, but they were creating the space and the behavioral traits I needed to pave the way for my truest desires. When tragedy strikes, it can be an ancestral or karmic pattern that is giving us a chance to heal it for good, and that in itself is always a sacrifice, but it is why we came to this earth.
While we are here on this planet at this time to create our own heaven on earth (that will aid everyone around us and the collective as a whole if we’re creating from a space of true love), many of us come here as a sacrifice in some form. As sobering as that sounds, it doesn’t mean we are excluded from love, joy, and abundance. What that means is that we came here to heal the energy of this planet by taking on burdens and pain that we transmute into love or neutrality.
The Akashic Records shows us that there’s a spirit within all of us that is connected to THE ALL THAT IS. It is a direct line to source or God, it’s the life force energy that fuels all of creation and never dies. This internal connection is often referred to as the eternal flame, Holy Spirit, or the Higher Self. It is connected to the collective unconscious, unconditional love, and all that has ever been and ever will be. It is wisdom and truth, and what I would refer to as your “inner voice” or “inner knowing.” This mystical life force we are all connected to is how we tune in to the ether in mediumship, psychic work, the Akashic Records, intuitive readings, and often during creative work or innovation.
This life force energy is also what allows us to be rooted in discernment and an immovable inner knowing that can feel unexplainable. This energy is not connected to the mind, but moves through the body in what we might refer to as the Clair Senses. This life force energy we are connected to is how we know what our truest desires are, what to manifest, or what to pray and ask for.
This internal connection to God or source can aid us in expanding our conscious awareness when we ask it to (even inadvertently.) This means, that as we develop more conscious awareness (and move up the gradient), these forces become more easily and readily available to us. As we become aware of who we truly are (not who we were told we were by caregivers, teachers, society and the media) by raising our consciousness, and knowing our internal mechanics, we begin to take our rightful place in the world, and realize what we came here to do. When we arrive at this place of awareness, we are able to manifest what has always been meant for us in its highest and truest form for who we have become.
What we have manifested quickly and easily in the past will likely be simple for us to receive in the future (sometimes we are just waiting for divine timing, aka a transit for that, but we know it’s coming).
If career and money has often come to you easily, but quality relationships have not, you may be facing resistance or a “block.” We face resistance to the areas where we have wounding and/or past ancestral karma. The higher we rise on the gradient and consistently step out in faith in ways that might feel unknown or uncomfortable, the easier it will be to form new neural pathways that will allow us to diminish these “blocks” that we feel are keeping us stuck in an endless cycle.
Manifestation is not something we have to try and do, it’s a phenomenon that is naturally occurring constantly, as we are all creators. However, to manifest what we desire, we must have clarity on who we are and what we truly want on a heart level, and the belief that we can actually have it.
When we say “belief” this is of course a subconscious belief as opposed to a conscious belief. Our subconscious mind runs 95% of our lives in the background, and we remember from our lesson above in Human Design that the subconscious part of our mechanics is the design crystal, aka the body. What does the body believe you can manifest?
When you say an affirmation that is based on something you are desiring to have, does a particular place in your body respond with doubt and resistance, or a sense of joy and assurance? When my body feels resistance to something I’m trying to call in, I usually feel a burning between my gut and the bottom of my rib cage. Your body’s response to your affirmations will tell you where you have “blocks” to work on. Your body’s resistance can also indicate that you need to “rephrase” your affirmation or prayer to something that your subconscious can accept or understand.
Working to move past or heal these blocks and manifest can be done in a variety of ways:
Shadow work can be used to acknowledge the wounding and karma for what it is and why it’s there. Shadow work is meant to help you see your shame, fears, and past wounding with clarity while sending yourself love and understanding. It’s essentially a way to bring yourself back into wholeness.
Affirmations (or prayers) done on repeat until they sink into your subconscious. These repetitive affirmations will aid the process of creating and forming new patterns and beliefs over time. Done in the early morning before anything else, and just before falling asleep can be prime time for your subconscious to integrate them.
Vision boards can help clarify what is actually desired. For those who are visually inclined, these can be a surprisingly easy way to manifest quickly. In a similar vain guided meditations where you visualize yourself receiving your manifestation can also be helpful.
Creating a new self concept. This can consist of actively facing your shame and fears and going against your old reactions, behaviors, and habits in order to create a new identity, where your manifestation can come in.
Scripting or writing out manifestations as if they are already yours on a new or full moon is a popular method. This has never been my personal jam, but many people swear by it.
Candle magic and ritual can call in desires if done in divine timing.
The absolute key with any manifestation practices is surrender. Yes you want something, but it’ll only come with surrender. You have to have faith and assurance that it is yours and on its way. When you have that, you release the desire instead of obsessing over it. When you obsess over something, it’s the active response of not trusting that your desire will come to you.
Do you need candle magic, vision boards, or scripting to manifest? No. These types of rituals only combine action, clarity, and desire into a form of working prayer that can be quite helpful. Can you just pray and ask for something? Yes. Can you affirm your desires in a statement? Yes. Do what feels right for you, and go to where your spirit is calling.

This makes so much sense. I always felt like my life was extremely fated, almost set in stone. I know I can manifest, but even that felt per-ordained in some way. This gave me so much hope! I'm definitely motivated to start tuning back in to spirit and doing my shadow work practices next week. XOX
